Our clients were after a cozy weekend cabin on their bushy Dandenong Ranges block. Given the vast temperature extremes – hot and dry in the summer to cold and wet in the winter, the brief was for a sustainable cabin, that will be energy efficient in all conditions, fit in to the local scenery and be cheap to build.
Environmentally and sustainably conscience, our clients wanted to have their cabin built from SIPs, with as much recycled material to be used as possible.
The floor, external walls, internal walls and the roof were all constructed from SIPs. The roof and external walls have been clad in recycled corrugated iron, some of which has been sourced from old farm buildings on the property.
The deck has recycled power poles to hold up its corrugated iron roof, and recycled flooring feature walls, all looking out over rolling hills whilst being hidden like just another farm shed.
